A Sense of Solitude
Isn’t it ironic that the relationship between the number of people around you is directly proportional to your loneliness? Think for a moment, the more people you have around you the lonelier you feel. Shouldn’t this be the reverse?
In this self-centric society, we live in the crowd, both virtual and real but becoming ever more alone. We share the most insignificant details but that which really matters, we conceal.
Most of us have at least one account in a social networking site and our number of friends can compete with the number of hairs we have, but when we look inward, our hearts are lonely, waiting to be noticed, to be adored.
We keep ourselves busy with numerous activities, but our desire to connect with another soul remains unfinished. We know the least important details about the people around us but don’t know how they really are, we are none the wiser than a stranger.
In school, we learn “Man is a social animal”, but still, we live alone amongst the crowd. It’s time we take a good look at ourselves and confront who we are!
Does this photograph taken by photographer Escael Arsenio Marrero Avila (Madrid, Spain), evoke loneliness?
