Department of Art and Photography
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Photography
The Photography major prepares students how to see, visualize, and capture the moments of light that represent their own voices. Committed to provide a broader understanding of art and photography, the major helps students to develop their technical, conceptual, and aesthetic abilities, where they have the opportunity to practice and learn the theoretical and practical skills needed to capture meaningful photographs.
The primary goal of this major is to make a strong foundation in contemporary
photography with comprehensive courses in art, technology, physics and engineering, where numerous second and third year courses allow the exploration of applied optics, color management, imaging systems, and fine arts.
The B.S. in Photography is a three-year degree. A Master of Science (M.S.) is then required to progress on to Ph.D. The fourth year is optional. It is for those who want to do Double Major, an opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge and capacities by pursuing a second Major alongside their primary Major, i.e., B.F.A. in Photojournalism along with this B.S. in Photography.
Students will be given the opportunity to earn credits by enrolling in independent projects or educational internships at Light & Composition. Upon graduation, students will be ready to create or pursue a career as visual artists or educators in a variety of photography industries, or print and electronic media businesses.
