Breenhold Gardens: Capturing the Colors of Autumn by Leanne Lindsay
Imagine this: crisp air nipping at your cheeks, the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot, and a kaleidoscope of color exploding before your eyes. That's exactly what greeted me when I finally made it to the legendary Breenhold Gardens in the heart of autumn. This photo captures the very essence of that magical day. A lone figure, dwarfed by the trees cloaked in fiery reds walks in the clearing, his back to us, a canvas for our own interpretations. Are they lost in the beauty of the landscape, or simply taking a moment to soak it all in? The umbrella, a riot of autumnal colors itself, shelters their head and shoulders, adding a touch of mystery. You can almost hear the rustle of wind through the branches, the symphony of nature playing its farewell song to summer and beckoning Winter. The breathtaking beauty of Breenhold Gardens is a reminder that sometimes, the most extraordinary journeys are the ones we take to witness the simple magic of the world around us.
Confusion by Leanne Lindsay
In the dark, abandoned tunnels below Sydney, people try to find their way, but the light is confusing for it does not give direction but shines in all directions while still not giving off enough light to show the way. The people stop to get their bearing, to find their way, but it is hopeless. The harshness of the lights and shadows forbodes the stark and unfriendly world they find themselves in. The darkness is oppressive, and it seems to close in on the two people who are walking through the tunnel. The shadows are menacing, and they suggest that there is something dangerous lurking in the darkness. The light from the bulbs is not enough to dispel the darkness, and it only makes the shadows seem more frightening.
Painted Silos by Leanne Lindsay
Out and about exploring around NSW with my camera in hand, we came across these Painted Silos at The Foundations, Portland (about 40 minutes west of Lithgow). The silos were painted in April and May 2018 by artist Guido Van Helten. The six individuals represented in the artwork are all former employees who shared their recollections of working at the Portland Cement Works and how their lives have been impacted by the industry in their town. You will see painted silos all around Australia - they make a great canvas for artists. My dream is to photograph all of them eventually.
