Storm Over Kona, by Christopher Johnson

Honl’s beach is a spot that I find myself shooting a lot, but never in the rain. The way the sunset was developing, with the deep blues and purples of the storm clouds, I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity of the shot. Holding the umbrella while setting up and making adjustments was a huge challenge, but was a blessing. With the added baggage I was forced to slow down and pre-visualize the shot, so setting up would only happen once. I took this shot at 30 seconds with a graduated ND filter to darken the sky for a more even image.
