In All Weathers by Nilla Palmer
The Tren de las Nubes (train to/in the clouds), travels on the third highest railway in the world (over 4,220mts/ 13,850ft). Just before reaching La Polvorilla Viaduct, the train’s destination, we stopped temporarily so that young artisans had the opportunity to sell their handmade treasures in the extreme conditions of the snowy wastes.

Nilla Palmer’s natural desire to travel and photograph many parts of the world started 27 years ago, although her photography addiction started with her first 110mm film camera as a child. This eventually progressed to 35mm cameras as a teenager and a photography course, which also taught B&W darkroom techniques. Later, more study in Communications Design and Multimedia increased her desire to experiment further with composition and light.
Nilla’s intent is to reveal a story through her images for an audience, which she hopes inspires and encourages people to visit far off lands. Without a strict genre that she adheres to, Nilla captures whatever strikes her at a precise moment. Although her work includes a variety of themes, capturing the essence of a candid moment is her passion; an unguarded second in a frozen in time. She invites everyone to enjoy her gallery and feel free to contact her with any comments.

There were quite a few of these young kids (and younger), selling arts & crafts in the snow in the Andes at over 4,000mts; too cold in a bitter wind.
As the stops are not designated stops, they just wait until the train stops near them to run up to the train’s windows to sell their goods.
brings back lots of memories of an amazing continent!
