Times Squareway, by Darrell Sandefur
I visit New York City every January for business, and I always go to Times Square for the sights and sounds. I enjoy challenging myself to see the same person twice. On this night it was particularly cold so the typical crowds were sparse. No matter the weather there are always tourists being photographed and taking pictures. Several weeks earlier I had received my wide-angle lens, and could not imagine a better location to break it in. A flash is unnecessary for a nice digital SLR because of all the different types of lighting illuminating the area. I took this picture at the top of the red steps looking south toward famous New Year’s ball. The combination of a great camera and solid lens made for a photo which did not need any post processing.

As an amateur photographer Darrell Sandefur is most comfortable taking pictures of “things” – architecture, cityscapes, closeup/macro, landscape, and nature photography are his favorites. He prefers to compose his pictures well when taking them with his Nikon D5000 and rely less on post processing with applications.
Darrell almost always brings his camera with him on frequent business travel so he can seize every opportunity to improve his skills. He has not had a photo shoot where he did not learn something. The lenses Darrell mostly uses are his standard issue Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR AF-S, Nikon DX 55-200mm f/4-5.6G AF-S, or Tamron SP 10-24mm 1:3.5-4.5 wide angle.

Love the colors and action of this shot. Times Square just bubbles with activity.
