Waiting, by Shahnaz Parvin
Once I went to Geneva Camp to see the abandoned hospital, which was used for child birth and recently been shut down as no one there supports NGOs. Just opposite of that building, I saw this tailor and beside him there was a boy, who was waiting. What made it really interesting was the chicken, which the tailor tied with a rope, was also waiting like the boy, for the tailor to finish his work. To me their waiting tales a different story, the story of Geneva Camp, a slum in the center of Dhaka, with more than 25,000 people, estranged Pakistanis, stateless people with no rights after the war of 1971. Even after many generations here they still wait, as if someday their life will change.
