Father’s Day for Rani, by Shahnaz Parvin
It’s a tradition in Bangladesh to invite relatives and pray for the departure soul. 16 June was the Father’s Day and it was my father’s death anniversary too. After losing parents, memories always hurt more in some special days. On this June 16, 2013, rather than inviting some rich relatives, I decided to spend times with orphan children in an orphanage. My mother along with my other siblings was agreed. When I reached there with my elder sister, one of the orphan girls touched my heart. Her name was Rani, and she was 5 years old. Two years back she had joined this orphanage after losing her parents. While I was sitting next to her, became speechless for few minutes, because not only she was praying for my father’s soul, but she prayed for me too, which deeply touched my heart. I will remember her always.
