Patrolling the Territory, by Martin Meyer
Watching and tracking this sub-adult male was an unforgettable experience as he patrolled the territory belonging to his mother, who was out hunting. We were fortunate to be able to remain just outside of the lopard’s natural comfort zone, which gave us a unique vantage point from which to capture this elusive member of Africa’s Big Five. I carefully anticipated the young male’s movement as he wandered silently toward us. By watching his slow hunting method through my viewfinder, I could speak to my guests in whispers and alert them to prepare to capture this unique moment in time as he approached our game viewing vehicle.
