Ancient Land, Ancient House, by Lygia Maria Pimentel
In 2013, I visited Sicily with some Italian friends. I couldn’t believe I was stepping into so much history. As I was walking through Piazza Cesare Battisti, in Siracuse, I saw that man standing at the porch that seemed as old as that ancient land. I wondered when that house was built and if it have ever been refurbished. How many years would it stand up?

Born in the countryside of Bebedouro, a Brazilian small town located in the state of Sao Paulo, Lygia Maria Pimentel has been fascinated by photography her whole life, but only in 2013 she was able to afford professional equipment. In the meanwhile, she graduated as a veterinary and started her consultancy company focused on guiding producers into risk management programs. As Brazilians have abusive taxes for imported items (89%), she decided to be an outlaw and asked a friend who was travelling to the US to buy her a Nikon D5300 with a 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6. When he arrived, she panicked: she did not know how to manage any of these buttons and functions. Even though Lygia regretted it at first, she decided to go after a course next. Overtime, she managed to learn how to operate the camera, even though she always has trained her eyes to capture. Then she started working hard. In less than two years, she already has a portfolio and wants to start working on it to understand where she has to work on and improve her techniques.
