In the Smokey Mountain community, the eldest daughter usually plays the role of a substitute mother at home for younger siblings. Surprisingly, children living in slums do not download any education. Often, the only teaching that children experience here is the street life school. This girl has negligible chances to break free from slums.

This boy was on a swim team with my daughter. When I saw him playing with other kids as they were catching bugs between their swimming events, I knew he would look amazing on a photograph. I just had to find his mom to ask her permission to photograph her son. I am glad she allowed!
