[mashshare align="right"]In this “Exclusive Interview” section, today we have the opportunity to talk with Sanak Roy Choudhury, as his photograph was winner of Photo of the Month – 52nd Month, 3rd Place. Let’s discover more about Sanak Roy Choudhury, and his forays into photography in the following interview with him.
Light & Composition: Greetings from Light & Composition, Sanak. How does it feel being selected as the winner of Photo of the Month, 52nd Month, 3rd Place?
Sanak Roy Choudhury: Proper justification of any kind of art is always a pleasure for me and this coveted L & C award is not an exception at all. The simple yet unique rules made the award more appealing to me and I feel overwhelmed to get this honor!
L&C: Your photograph “Run for Dominance” was selected as Photo of the Month, is a wonderful Motion Photography with artistic perspective, correct lighting, and very well presented. Overall, a great composition! Tell us more about your experience of taking this photograph.
Sanak: After several views in social network and other sites about cattle race I was turned on thinking about the captivating adrenaline rush experienced by the photographer during the moment of capturing these huge cattles running with great force. On a short trip to my native place I managed to get some info on the location and headed with my gears to take some shots of this running extravaganza! This particular moment was also very exciting to me as the cattle was straight heading towards me and my legs were inside knee deep muddy water. Actaully I was thinking while capturing that if the cattle did not change its course I need to jump!Fortunately things happened to my favor and I managed a narrow escape with this award winning shot!
L&C: Besides this winning photograph, many people liked and voted for other photographs of yours in the Photo of the Month contest. You must be proud. How do you see your journey to the world of photography so far?
Sanak: To me photography is a science and LIGHT, CONTENT, FORM are the key elements responsible to enrich this art. Content and form are both very important elements in a photo. I personally believe that a good photo is one which encapsulates an effective fight between composition and content. My initial mind in photography was not a keen learner but more of a enthusiastic one, who would love to explore and capture whatever comes around. Today with the help of my earlier mistakes I sincerely put my efforts in creating something unique which can discern me from others.
L&C: As we know, you are originally from India. Do you think the rich diverse cultural and artistic heritage of India portrayed a different essence to you?
Sanak: I believe in Unity in Diversity as I belong from a nation (INDIA) where the basic roots are strongly based on the said principle. My yesteryear’s witnessed travel to many parts of India allowing my mind to realize the immensely rich culture and heritage of my country which apparently compelled me to frame them. Although I used to shoot only with a handy cam in my earlier days but there was always a positive enthusiasm behind every shots I used to capture no matter how inappropriate it might look in terms of technicalities.
L&C: Do you like a particular genre of photography and if so, why?
Sanak: Photography itself is a never ending passion for me and I simply love to shoot whatever comes on my way. But as I grow older in this art I see myself more inclined towards Landscape, street photography as both provides me ample scope of experimenting beyond limit!
L&C: One of the keys to any style of photography is visualization. Please tell us how you started this process and what you did afterwards.
Sanak: As I mentioned earlier, my initial mind was more keen in taking a photograph rather than making a photograph. Gradual onset of ideas by virtue of viewing some works of great photographers around the globe coupled with studying blogs and continuous experimenting with my camera helped me to see things in a different perspective today.
L&C: Have you ever exhibited your work? If so, then tell us about your first exhibiting experience.
Sanak: Fortunately YES! I had the opportunity to showcase my work at national level (Taj Fest) once and a couple of state level exhibition. Nikon also provided me an opportunity to exhibit 2 of my photographs recently in Dubai.
L&C: Are you involved with any photography organizations? How does this help you in your photography?
Sanak: No, I am a self taught amateur photographer and I still strive to learn more. However I do associate myself with some photography groups in social network where I get to give and share ideas related to photography.
L&C: What advice would you give our readers who want to take part in the journey around the world with photography?
Sanak: LOVE & ENJOY clicking and surely success will follow you!
L&C: Thank you, Sanak, for sharing your feelings and experiences with us.
Congratulations Sanak. Lovely snaps and many interesting points which we all felt being hobbiest in this beautiful form of art.
