Market Day by Keshia Sophia
The west of Ireland is known for its fresh seafood. Salmon is my absolute favourite catch of the day, if anything for the colour. We love cooking with fresh fish in our home but there is something to be said for appreciating the beauty of a food in its raw form. With Salmon, the simplest ingredients work best and I wanted to capture this sentiment in the photography. I chose to use a natural light that would gently skim across the surface of the fillet to better showcase its freshness. The addition of a little dill and salt better accentuated the clean texture of the fish.
Frozen Berries by Keshia Sophia
I wanted to experiment with negative space by focusing on food with bold colours. I love blueberries but they are rarely given the starring role. Having just come out of the freezer, the moisture of the skin gave a beautiful sheen when caught in the natural light. I used only white backgrounds to highlight the subject. The macro lens allowed for the delicious textures to shine through in perfect compliment to the white surroundings. A real statement piece.
Chilli and Spice Makes Everything Nice by Keshia Sophia
When I think of spices, I think warmth and flavour. I think heat. Nothing expresses this more that deep red food. I absolutely adore Dukkah as a seasoning and love adding it to my eggs and vegetables. Between the texture and the colours, It makes for an interesting photographic subject. I wanted to showcase the colours while also nodding to its complimentary role so I used a shallow depth of field to highlight the dukkah. The hint of chilli in the background added the story of the dish.
