Ginger
(Jahe, Ingwer, अदरक, Zencefîl, Halia, جنزبيل, or আদা)
One of the key ingredients of Indian cuisine, ginger is used for making thicker, gravies, both vegetarian and meat-based dishes. It is also used for making traditional Indian drinks, both cold and hot. Fresh, dried, as well as powder ginger have many uses around the world. From spice tea and coffee, to sweet foods such as ginger ale, gingerbread, ginger snaps, parkin, ginger biscuits and speculaas, ginger is used for many food preparations.
Ginger has special uses in traditional Bengali cuisines. Often it is finely chopped or ground into a paste to use as a base for chicken and meat dishes alongside onion and garlic.
