An Ode to Headscarves

A rectangular piece of cloth but sometimes square, not very versatile, but covers your head, and sometimes tied around the neck. Although simple clothing, a headscarf is very significant for some women…

Sometimes worn to hide medical conditions or to protect hair from the scorching sun; and most significantly when worn with pride as a crown, to declare devotion to the Almighty. Google the name and find well over a million results!

A headscarf always tells a story…for the wearer, but sometimes on its own. A humble piece of cloth perceived as non-versatile, but it is much more diverse, with underlying and hidden stories. This photograph by Mat Zain Abdullah (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) is an ode to all those stories.
