For a Glimpse of Heaven

When I shut my eyes, I feel the world plunge. Lifting my lids, everything is slowly reborn. Am I imagining this in my head? The sky is waltzing out in blue, red, and white…black smoke gallops in swiftly. Again, I shut my eyes to feel the world, lifeless.

I dream I am close to heaven and songs are sung to moonstruck me; I force my eyes closed to allow this to transpire in my mind. I sense a dreamland in those fiery smoke plumes and inflamed skies…searching for a glimpse of heaven, I shut my eyes to make the world around me become this paradise. But, when I open my eyes once more, I am still in reality. A better part of my heart comes to realise that it is I who creates my world as hell or heaven. I keep my eyes open to search for the peace in me and transform the world around me into heaven.

For a Glimpse of Heaven

Sunrise at Tengger, by Ismawan Arief Ismail

Photographer Ismawan Arief Ismail (Kuala Kencana, Papua, Indonesia), captured the view of Tengger caldera during sunrise, with the infamous Mount Bromo, Batok, and Semeru in the middle of the caldera, surrounded by the Sand Sea or Laut Pasir as the local people called the volcanic sand desert inside the caldera. The photo was taken from Penanjakan peak, a popular spot to photograph the caldera during sunrise. Undoubtedly, the most popular and well known tourist attraction in East Java province of Indonesia, Tengger can be reached by a 2-hour land trip from either Surabaya or Malang cities. Tengger offers you sunrise scenery from Penanjakan or Cemoro Lawang or even from the crater’s rim. Experience a trek or off-road trip across the mountain’s famous sand sea, the traditional local people’s event, and much more…
