The Greater Perspective of Life
I would not go so far to call a person ungrateful for not appreciating the difficulties they encounter. However, it is those very difficulties that let us, choose, to become people of character and wisdom. It is not certain. Trials and tribulations can make us better or bitter. There are those who use the difficulties of life as reasons to excuse their own failure while others use them to gain a greater perspective and gather the wisdom available from the failed venture.
If used wisely, there may be a point down the road that we will look back on our life and experience a certain amount of gratefulness in our hearts for even some of those more difficult times that we were called upon to endure. Looking at the old man in the photograph “Drawn Life,” by photographer Ali Berrada, reminds me about this fact of life. Even at this old age, despite the tough conditions (52 degree), this man was more than happy to welcome people from a far city.
