The Pleasures of Eating
I love food. I love food to such an extent that it almost feels like a guilty pleasure. George Bernard Shaw said, “There is no love sincerer than the love of food.” Do you believe this? You don’t have to admit this openly. You read health magazines and perhaps your room is a mini replica of a gym store. You are also massively concerned with healthy eating; low carb, low cholesterol, and low fat. You have been known to lecture others on the pitfalls of their inadequate diets; though in your heart, you are dying to taste delicious, exquisite food to satiate your hunger. So, is this hunger, the physical familiar hunger of the stomach? Do you ever feel this? Then tell me why women love to cook food? Is it only because they find a certain excitement in cooking? Or, because the expression on the faces of their beloved ones is so gratifying to see whilst savoring their food, that they feel love with this?
Why we love food, will always be a dilemma; to eat or to cook? But, when I look at the photograph of Hyderabadi Biryani, taken by Photographer Lakshmi Prabhala (Hyderabad, India), this question begins to form in my head; why wouldn’t we love food? What do you think?
Hyderabad is famous for its Dum Biryani. It is a traditional celebration meal made using goat meat and rice, and is the staple of a die-hard Hyderabadi. The Hyderabadi Biryani is so named as this delicious dish is created in the city of Hyderabad, India. The fusion of Mughlai and Telangana cuisines in the kitchens of the Nizam (ruler of the historic Hyderabad State), resulted in the creation of the tasteful Hyderabadi Biryani.
