The guarantee of getting a good shot is to press the shutter at the right moment. This man was doing normal everyday things around his home. With a nod of his head he gave me permission to take a picture. I took advantage of this opportunity and got the effect you see.

Walking the narrow streets of the Smokey Mountain suburbs with my taxi driver as our guide, we looked into local homes. Wherever possible, we looked inside. It is customary to always ask for permission to take a picture. Usually, a simple gesture at the camera, a questioning look, and an OK hand gesture is enough. This family was eating a meal. We had a small dessert for the kids.

The greatest treasure and pride of people in extreme poverty are children. The difficult financial situation of the family leads to many sacrifices and placing hope for the future in offspring. In this photo, a proud father shows his son in the window as his pride and hope for a better tomorrow.
